Method and sources

Potential = procurement spend or invoice volume per year × number of years (audited spend) × rate × industry factor

Provider figures: around 0.10% p.a. (CASHFiNDER, Sindelar Revision) and 0.25% to 0.50% p.a. for a historical software audit (Xelix).

  • CASHFiNDER: "+/- 0,1 % des Einkaufsvolumens p.a."; Sindelar Revision: "0,1% Ihres Einkaufsvolumens".
  • Xelix states typically 0.25% to 0.5% of annual spend for its own historical audit.

Origin: market figures from recovery audit providers (CASHFiNDER, Sindelar Revision, Xelix), retrieved on 01.10.2026, according to the MarginValor concept v0.2. These are provider statements, not an independent study.

Rates by maturity: Rheinvalor classification, not a study.

MaturityShare of audited spend
low1.00% to 2.00%
medium0.75% to 1.50%
high0.50% to 1.00%

Rheinvalor classification: 0.5% to 2% of the audited procurement spend over the whole look-back period. At low maturity the rate is above the market figures (up to 2.00%) because MarginValor additionally matches contracts and terms (tiers, rebates, surcharges) systematically. This is an assessment, not a study result.

Industry factor: 1.0 for all industries (not yet differentiated, there are no documented industry values).

MarginValor

Who it is for

MarginValor is for companies, SMEs, private equity and consultancies. It fits procurement spend of up to around CHF 800 million; we also have suitable models for smaller companies.

Within a company, procurement and finance work together. Procurement prepares the claim, finance approves it. This way, no claim goes out without approval by a second person.

For private equity and consultancies, one point matters: MarginValor is available on its own as a recovery audit and needs no other modules of the suite. It does not have to run on an ongoing basis. Consultancies and private equity can also use all ProcureValor modules under their own name through AdvisorValor, with clients strictly separated. MarginValor is developed in Switzerland and 100 % hosted in Switzerland.

If you already manage your contracts in ContractValor, you have an additional advantage. There, prices and terms are data rather than PDFs, and MarginValor matches the invoices directly against them.

If you first want to know what could be in it for you, start with the potential calculator. It provides an extrapolation based on market figures and a Rheinvalor classification, not a commitment. Billing is 100% success-based.

MarginValor

An example

Example, fictitious: A Swiss retail company wants to know whether it has overpaid in recent years. It starts with the potential calculator and selects its invoice volume, a look-back period of five years and the maturity level “medium”. The result is an extrapolation, not a commitment.

The team then sets up an audit: period and group of suppliers. Invoices, contracts and purchase orders are loaded, and MarginValor matches every line. One finding concerns a framework contract with volume tiers: the invoices were issued at list price, not at the tier price. A second finding concerns a contractual rebate that was never claimed. Every finding shows formula and evidence.

Procurement prepares a claim package per supplier with e-mail, derivation and QR-bill. Finance approves. The company has us handle the supplier communication, subject to its approval. One supplier issues a credit note, another pays. The status of each claim moves from approved through claimed and acknowledged to “cash received”. The company only pays for what actually comes back.

FAQ

Frequently asked questions

What is a recovery audit?

A recovery audit checks invoices that have already been paid and recovers overpaid money from suppliers. MarginValor matches invoices from the past five years against contracts and purchase orders. It finds wrong prices, forgotten discounts and unclaimed rebates. Every finding comes with formula and source, traceable to its origin. MarginValor is available separately as a recovery audit or as part of the ProcureValor suite.

How much money does a recovery audit recover?

It depends on the audited spend and on the maturity of payables and contract processes. The MarginValor potential calculator uses 0.50% to 2.00% of audited spend over the whole look-back period: low 1.00% to 2.00%, medium 0.75% to 1.50%, high 0.50% to 1.00%. This is a Rheinvalor classification, not a study. The result is an extrapolation, not a commitment, before limitation periods and before fees.

How much does a recovery audit with MarginValor cost?

A recovery audit with MarginValor is 100% success-based: you only pay when money comes back. What counts is what actually comes back: payment, credit note or offsetting by the supplier. The amounts in the potential calculator are before fees. We also have suitable models for smaller companies. You can request a recovery audit directly or book a call.

What data does a recovery audit need?

For a recovery audit, MarginValor needs invoices, contracts and purchase orders. For every amount, MarginValor shows the documents: invoice, contract, purchase order, payment. The tool connects to your systems and contract databases. Data can also be uploaded as files or taken over directly from the ProcureValor suite. In ProcureValor, clients are strictly separated and every change is recorded in the audit trail. MarginValor is developed in Switzerland and 100 % hosted in Switzerland.

How far back can overpaid invoices be checked?

MarginValor checks invoices up to five years back. In the potential calculator you choose a look-back period of three, four or five years. A dedicated view shows limitation periods: which amounts will soon be time-barred, so nothing is lost. MarginValor covers Swiss, German and Austrian law. The amounts in the calculator are before limitation periods.

How does a recovery audit with MarginValor work?

A recovery audit with MarginValor runs in four steps. You set up the audit: period and group of suppliers. Then the data is loaded. Next, the rules do the calculation, every finding with evidence. Finally, the claim is sent after four-eyes approval and tracked until the money arrives. Nothing is ever sent automatically. On request, we handle all communication with your suppliers, subject to your approval.

Which companies is MarginValor suitable for?

MarginValor is suitable for companies, SMEs, private equity and consultancies. It fits companies with procurement spend of up to around CHF 800 million; we also have suitable models for smaller companies. The potential calculator shows an extrapolation for each invoice volume, look-back period and maturity level, not a commitment. Rheinvalor offers consulting in German, English and French.

Is MarginValor available on its own or only as a suite?

MarginValor is available on its own as a recovery audit, even without the other modules of the ProcureValor suite. You do not need it on an ongoing basis. It is even stronger together with ContractValor: there, prices and terms are data rather than PDFs, and MarginValor matches the invoices against them. For consultancies and private equity, all ProcureValor modules are also available under their own name through AdvisorValor.
